Question:
For both audio and visual technologies, identify one traditional and one emerging technology from the book, and explain how you could potentially use all four devices in the classroom.
Answer:
One traditional audio technology is the talking book. This is used in classroom of multiple ages. This can be used to help students learn how to read, or it can just be used as a tool for students to pick up on all of the elements that are included in the reading that they may not have been able to pick up on without the reading. An emerging audio technology is optical media. This means that the tapes are no longer on tapes, but instead on CDs as well as DVDs. They have the same effect, but the CDs and DVDs are easier to use in the classroom.
One traditional visual technology is a bulletin board. This is used in almost every single classroom from Kindergarten until Senior year of High School. Teachers use this technology in order for students to know expectations about the class, homework assignments, as well as for many other reasons. One emerging technology that is being used is internet broadcasts. This will let teachers steam live news and event to their classroom and to help keep the students up to date.
I believe that I could easily incorporate all of these devices into my classroom. If I have to have the kids read a story, I could have them listen to it on a book on tape. Or I could have them listen to it by me using a CD instead. I will most definitely have a bulletin board in my classroom to clearly state my expectations, homework assignments, and class policies. I will also be able to use live feeds to show my students breaking news as it happens.

Chapter 6 Reading Response
Question:
Based on the information in chapter 6, would you prefer to teach in a classroom that had more or less digital technologies? Why or why not?
Answer:
As a future teacher, I would prefer to have a classroom that had more digital technologies. I believe that this is essential because of the way our world is becoming. Our students must be able to use technology in the real world, so we might as well start teaching them now. Many of these technology devices are capable of being used in everyday materials such as touch screen cell phones, speakers, headphones, and numerous other things. By allowing our students to be able to use these technologies, they will be better off in the real world. However, at the same time a teacher must be careful to not over stimulate the students with too much technology.

All About Me
Hello my name is Britt Gerken and this is my blog. I am from Defiance, OH, which is about an hour west of here. The reason I went to Bowling Green is because of the education that is offered here and because of how close it is to my hometown. I am currently studying to be a Middle Childhood Education teacher. My specialization content areas will be Math and Science. I am also in the process of obtaining a minor in general business. I feel that by doing this I will be as well prepared for life after college as I can be.
