Question:
For both audio and visual technologies, identify one traditional and one emerging technology from the book, and explain how you could potentially use all four devices in the classroom.
Answer:
One traditional audio technology is the talking book. This is used in classroom of multiple ages. This can be used to help students learn how to read, or it can just be used as a tool for students to pick up on all of the elements that are included in the reading that they may not have been able to pick up on without the reading. An emerging audio technology is optical media. This means that the tapes are no longer on tapes, but instead on CDs as well as DVDs. They have the same effect, but the CDs and DVDs are easier to use in the classroom.
One traditional visual technology is a bulletin board. This is used in almost every single classroom from Kindergarten until Senior year of High School. Teachers use this technology in order for students to know expectations about the class, homework assignments, as well as for many other reasons. One emerging technology that is being used is internet broadcasts. This will let teachers steam live news and event to their classroom and to help keep the students up to date.
I believe that I could easily incorporate all of these devices into my classroom. If I have to have the kids read a story, I could have them listen to it on a book on tape. Or I could have them listen to it by me using a CD instead. I will most definitely have a bulletin board in my classroom to clearly state my expectations, homework assignments, and class policies. I will also be able to use live feeds to show my students breaking news as it happens.
